582 Kilos of cocaine hydrochloride seized in Fortaleza 233
A criminal group dedicated to the international traffic of controlled substances and made up of 9 citizens of different nationalities, was dismantled in San Vicente canton, thanks to Operation Fortaleza 233, this Saturday, December 2, at Los Perales airport.
An investigative work carried out by the National Police, through the Antidelinquential Unit (UIAN), in coordination with the Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR), Criminalistics, among other special units, managed to disintegrate this criminal organization that moved illicit substances through medium of a place, bound for Central America.
By means of citizen information it was known that an aircraft would land in the province of Manabí, inside which alleged several packages contained drugs were being transported, said General Freddy Ramos, commander of zone 4, at a press conference held this morning. The authority emphasized that Ecuador would be used as logistical support, but not production.
The result was the arrested of 9 people, including 1 Mexican pilot of the plane, 3 Colombians and 5 Ecuadorians, one of them guarding the airport. The investigations continue to determine if the provenance of the aircraft is true or false, given that it has an Ecuador license plate.
During the operation, one plane was confiscated, 25 packages with 501 packages, a total of 582 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride, 2 vehicles and cash.
